The First Arriving Recruitment Team just began the second year of our partnership with Cave Spring Volunteer Fire Department in Virginia.
In the first year of CSVFD’s project, the department has launched a new website, created a new multimedia gallery and designed an array of marketing materials designed to engage and inform the community about available volunteer opportunities. Each of these long-lasting solutions have propelled CSVFD’s recruitment efforts to the next level and has brought new life into the Roanoke department.
Robust Recruitment-Focused Website
Cave Spring Volunteer Fire Department’s updated website launched late May 2019. The department, which serves around 25,000 people in Roanoke, Virginia, was looking for an updated site to help bring more volunteers to its station doors so they partnered with the First Arriving web team to create a custom solution the department is proud of.

Video & Multimedia Production
The First Arriving Video Team traveled to the Roanoke, Va. area in April 2019 to profile Cave Spring’s volunteers for their video and multimedia package. Our team interviewed a dozen volunteers and collaborated with the department to create a video package that highlights Cave Spring’s unique recruitment opportunities.
Event & Offline Marketing Materials
Since the department participates in community events throughout the year, it was important to create attentioning grabbing materials that are designed to drive prospective members.
Collaborating with the recruitment team at CSVFD, the First Arriving Recruitment and Design Teams worked to design custom branded handouts including postcards, rack cards, flyers, stickers and business cards. We also collaborated to design custom yard signs and banners to highlight the department’s recruitment efforts around the community.
Cave Spring began putting these custom materials items to use in Fall 2019. In addition to PR opportunities around the community, CSVFD handed out recruitment information at home games throughout the high school football season.
